I didn’t burn out because I failed.
I burned out because the rules I was following stopped working.
For a long time, I believed success was about discipline, consistency, and pushing through - no matter how tired I was.
I built my life the “right” way.
I worked in banking, became a mortgage broker, and co-built a seven-figure mortgage business from the ground up.
On paper, it worked. I built wealth, a property portfolio, and became mortgage-free before 40.
But behind the scenes, a lot of that success was powered by pressure.
Adrenaline.
Over-functioning.
And a quiet belief that if I just stayed disciplined enough, freedom would eventually arrive.
It didn’t.
Walking away didn’t mean starting over - it meant choosing differently
After years of long hours and relentless responsibility, burnout caught up with me. Anxiety crept in. Sleep disappeared. Even routine client meetings became overwhelming.
At the same time, my husband Bernie and I were missing the moments that mattered most - time with family overseas, the freedom to travel, the ability to be present instead of constantly “on.”
That’s when I realised something uncomfortable but important:
Success means nothing if it costs your health, energy, and life.
So we made a change.
After walking away, I built a successful online business - creating real freedom and flexibility for the first time, and proving to myself that I could rebuild success on my own terms.
The business worked.
The income was real.
The freedom was finally there.
But then….my body and brain changed the rules again.
When hustle stopped working - completely
In my early 40s, I was diagnosed with ADHD.
Not long after, I entered perimenopause.
Suddenly, the systems I’d relied on - even the ones that had helped me build success online - stopped working.
My focus wasn’t consistent.
My energy wasn’t predictable.
Motivation came in waves.
And hustle-culture advice started to feel less like inspiration… and more like shame.
I wasn’t failing.
But I couldn’t keep working the same way anymore - especially while building something new.
That’s when the real shift happened.
Stop managing time. Start owning energy.
I stopped trying to “fix” myself - and redesigned the way I worked instead.
I rebuilt my habits, systems, and expectations around energy, not effort:
> Focus windows instead of forcing 9-5 productivity
> Weekly resets instead of constant overwhelm
> “Done for now” instead of perfectionism
> Shame-free structure that bends with real life
That process became The Owner Switch.
Not a productivity system.
Not hustle advice.
And definitely not another discipline framework.
But a way of building a business - and a life - that still works when your energy doesn’t.
